It seems like September is a month of revisiting old times and working with old pictures – this one is of my mum and her high school friends, back in 1971. Since it’s a bit of a cheeky picture, I decided to go for bright and lively colours and loads of textures and materials. I used Ayeeda paints and mists, 13arts papers and flowers, and chipboard embellishments from scrapinec.pl. I punched the butterflies from paint tester cards I got at a DIY shop the other day. The corrugated card is from repainted scraps of my son’s creations; I covered it in white gesso and sprayed with pastel mists. As background, I used a square stencil to start with but then I decided that it wasn’t what I wanted so I softened it up by painting over it with gesso; that lightened up the colour and smudged the squares. On top of that I stamped random white gesso dots with bubble wrap.

I think the bright and colourful layout looks pretty well with the black and white photo, do you?
